Job Description

Job Duties:

Marketing and Social Media: In cooperation with the library's public communications specialist, the person in this position is responsible for editing and publishing the TRC's electronic newsletters, fliers, and other print and electronic marketing and outreach materials. This employee manages the department's marketing needs and serves as the marketing liaison to the library's Engagement and Outreach Department. This individual shares photographs and information about TRC events with the library's public communications specialist for use on social media platforms. Furthermore, this individual conducts research pertaining to social media marketing strategies and uses other platforms such as the image carousel on the TRC website to update and inform patrons.

Service Desk Logistics and Statistical Reports: In conjunction with the faculty department head, the person in this position creates and communicates the weekly service desk schedule for all members of the department, taking into consideration student employee, instruction, and meeting schedules. This position is also responsible for maintaining and reporting relevant departmental statistics such as service statistics to record the daily use of the Production Center, the types of classes held within the department, and the questions that the department members answer. Additional statistics tracking website, LibGuide, and bibliography use are also collected. The position must be able to use and understand Excel, LibApps, Microsoft Outlook, and other means of gathering and presenting data.

Public Service and Instruction: The TRC Service Desk represents the point of intersection between department efforts and end users. In response to face-to-face, electronic, and telephone queries, the person in this position will provide directional information, suggest appropriate areas or collections in the library to meet the patron's need, and provide basic and educational- specific reference assistance in the Teaching Resources Center. The person in this position is expected to be well-versed with the organization and arrangement of the TRC's physical collection, its contents, its most typical utilization patterns, and all education databases and electronic resources available. Since the TRC Service Desk is the only service desk on the second floor, patrons and questions are not limited to the field of education. Therefore, the position must also be knowledgeable of the general stacks and multidisciplinary databases. The position teaches general instructional classes and leads tours of the department. Also, the person in this position provides instruction on equipment and software use in the Schwarzmann Production Center and the TRC's collection of educational technology tools to individuals, classes, small groups, and area educators.

Technology and Informational Support: The person in this position provides technical and information support for the department. The position serves as the TRC's liaison to the library's Library Technology Department and is responsible for working with library-wide implementation plans for computer system upgrades and enhancements as well as overseeing the routine maintenance and troubleshooting of the department's computer technology and other media equipment, including equipment in the Ann Rhem Schwarzmann Production Center and the TRC's collection of educational technology tools. This position is also responsible for overseeing staff, student, and communal workstations, and all copiers and scanners in the Teaching Resources Center ( TRC ). The position creates reports for all library technology activities and plans that will affect the TRC . Furthermore, the position is responsible for providing instruction and assistance to members of the department as well as patrons regarding the appropriate software, hardware, and other media equipment including, but not limited to Microsoft products, Adobe products, interactive flat panels, and educational technology tools. The position collaborates with members of the TRC as well as the library's Library Technology Department in order to maintain and update the departmental website which involves the design, creation, and maintenance of over 100 web pages. Frequent updates include bibliographies, changes in hours, the image carousel, and more. The position is responsible for maintaining and updating TRC tutorials and LibGuides as directed by the department head and other TRC faculty.

Miscellaneous Duties: The position will create, submit, track and follow up on departmental work orders as submitted to Building Operations and Library Technology. The position maintains an accurate and current departmental policy manual electronically, updating the manual when policies are changed, added, or deleted. The position is responsible for contacting Administrative Services to report Interdepartmental Transfers ( IDT ). The position participates in special departmental and library projects and assists with other departmental duties as needed. When available, student employees may be assigned to assist, which will require this position to instruct and monitor the workflow of students supervised. The position regularly attends professional development opportunities that enhance job performance. The position may participate on library committees.

The Teaching Resources Center ( TRC ) is a collection of children's and young adult materials, software, and equipment including books (both print and electronic), K-12 North Carolina state adopted textbooks, educational technology tools, streaming videos, databases, manipulatives, poster makers, die-cuts, and more. The TRC primarily serves students and faculty within the College of Education, Department of Human Development and Family Sciences, other ECU teacher preparation programs, and educators in eastern North Carolina.
