Job Description
Research Assistant II opportunity in the Critical Care - Research department. Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a biology-related disciplinary and at least one-year experience in scientific or experimental research work. Experience working with myeloid cells and performing basic immunological techniques is preferred.Shift: 10 day work week with 4 days off JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES 1.Laboratory Research Activities · Prepares and conducts experiments with biological samples.
· Isolates, purifies and analyzes cells from clinical samples.
· Performs immunological techniques such as flow cytometry and ELISA
· Isolates, purifies and analyzes RNA, DNA and protein using standard molecular biology and biochemical techniques.
· Records, validates, evaluates and analyzes research data. Presents results of experiments on a regular basis to Principal Investigator
2.Clinical Research Activities (Use for RA II position) · Coordinates with clinical staff for project-specific collection and transport of clinical samples
· Coordinates with clinical staff to collect, enter and import project-specific clinical data
· Consolidates, analyzes, evaluates and presents clinical data regularly to the PI and in scientific meetings
• Works with the PI and lab supervisor to standardize new techniques to assess myeloid cell functions in biological samples
3.Record Keeping and Support · Records data in accordance with methods requested.
· Maintains legible notebook and/or organized database of research data, retrieves and interprets data from multiple sources
· Order all laboratory supplies and ensures all reagents and supplies are available when needed.
· Provide assistance on projects revolving around myeloid cell function in sepsis
4.Research Safety and Compliance · Maintains and updates all safety protocols
· Handles, stores, and disposes of chemical hazardous materials and biohazardous materials according to MDA safety guidelines and procedures.
· Maintain clean and neat work area in laboratory to ensure the most efficient functioning of the lab and a pleasant work environment.
EDUCATION Required: Bachelor's degree with major course works in one of the basic sciences.
Preferred: Master's degree with major course work in the one of the basic sciences and or medical field.
EXPERIENCE Required: One-year experience in scientific or experimental research work. No experience is required with preferred degree.
Preferred: Experience in handling myeloid cells and basic immunological techniques.
