Classification: Police Officer
The Grand Island Police Department is hiring Police Officers. Candidates must complete the National Testing Network (NTN) Frontline exam and PSSA, along with the department application. An in-person exam will also be hosted.
Salary Information:
$31.37-$44.35 per hour

High Deductible Plan (with HSA): $3,300/$5,800 deductible.

Mandatory Union Bank Retirement Plan: 7% of gross earnings matched by the City, effective immediately, with a seven-year vesting schedule.
Deferred Compensation:
Five optional plans allowing pre-tax contributions up to $18,000 annually.
Long-Term Disability:
Provided by CIGNA, covering 60% of salary (up to $8,500/month) if disabled.
Cafeteria/125 Plan:
Optional plan for medical expenses, premiums, and dependent daycare.
VEBA Plan:
Post-employment medical expense plan funded by the City.

Vacation not available during the introductory period.
Holidays: Nine holidays and two shifts of personal leave.
Medical Leave: Eight hours per month, up to 1,887 hours maximum.
Certified Officer Hiring Incentives:
$5,000 certification credit upon hire for Nebraska-certified or out-of-state certified officers after completing Nebraska's Reciprocity Certification.
50 hours of comp time for certified officers upon hire.
Hiring Process:
Complete the application through the City of Grand Island.
Meet minimum requirements.
Pass the NTN exam.
Complete a background investigation.
Participate in in-person interviews, including a home visit and panel interview.
Upon conditional offer, complete:
Polygraph
Psychological evaluation
Physical fitness exam
Medical exam and drug screening
Disqualifiers:
Felony convictions
Domestic assault convictions
DUI convictions within the past five years
Marijuana or THC use within the past two years
Other illicit drug use within the past five years
