Human Resources Coordinator

Full Time | Day Shift | 8am-5pm | Monday-Friday

Lutheran Social Services of Central Ohio is currently seeking a Human Resources Coordinator for Faith Mission in Columbus, Ohio. Faith Mission is one of the largest homeless shelters in Columbus, Ohio , providing meals and shelter to men, women and Veterans with dignity and compassion.

The Human Resources Coordinator is responsible for providing effective customer service for all internal and external customers by utilizing organizational, administrative, and general knowledge of Human Resources programs, policies, and practices. This position plays a key role in maintaining employee programs and database systems for the Agency. Provides support to HR Manager, VP of HR, and others.

What will I do as a Human Resources Coordinator with Lutheran Social Services:

  • Manages and maintains electronic employee records through ongoing entry into the HRIS. Sets up new employees and enters employment changes through termination in an accurate and timely manner. Ensures communication of appropriate materials and information to payroll.
  • Maintains employee HR files by creating personnel and medical/miscellaneous files and ensuring paperwork is filed and/or maintained in the appropriate manner. Tracking BCI, Background/Medicaid screens, Driving Records, Licensures and NPDB registry, etc.
  • Assists in benefit enrollment and maintenance issues ensuring that enrollment, deductions, and changes are made in a timely manner. Responds to medical support orders and child support orders and sends to payroll or HR Manager to ensure communication of changes affecting deductions are made to payroll in a timely manner.
  • Provides customer service to all internal and external customers by responding to general questions, requests for information, including employment verifications, etc. in a timely manner.
  • Manages COBRA process by sending initial COBRA notifications, sending COBRA election notices.
  • Participates in the employment process by tracking applications, placing ads (internal and external), and reviewing resumes. Assists with pre-employment background checks and drug-screens. Manages sanction checks. May participate in screening, interviewing of candidates, conducting reference checks, and hiring as needed.
  • Manages and monitors the performance evaluation process ensuring evaluations are distributed and returned in a timely manner.
  • Participates in the New Hire Orientation process by facilitating and ensuring completion of new hire paperwork, preparing and presenting orientation information as necessary.
  • Coordinates employee recognition programs including Terryberry Service Awards, Spirit of Excellence Awards, Service Awards, Holiday Gifts, Birthday Cards, Recognition Events, and Employee Appreciation Activities, etc.
  • Contributes to the LSS Connections Newsletter and other communications as needed.
  • Participates in and/or leads HR related projects as necessary.
  • Enables employee access for keys/fobs as needed.

Requirements for a Human Resources Coordinator with Lutheran Social Services:

  • This position requires a minimum of an associate degree in HR, Business or a related field required.
  • 2 years of experience in an administrative field and previous HR Experience required.
  • General understanding of practices, theories, and policies involved in HR and general business operations.
  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including PowerPoint, Excel, and Word along with HRIS databases (Paycom) preferred.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license, access to reliable insured transportation and ability to meet LSS insurance standards required.
