Flooring Concepts in North Olmsted, OH is looking for one flooring installer apprentice to join our 11 person strong team. Our ideal candidate is attentive, punctual, and hard-working.

Job Description

Assists with laying and installing flooring from boxes, rolls or blocks on floors. Assists with installing padding, trim, and flooring finish materials. Assists with demolition. Use special tools to position materials.

  • Assists head installer with these primary responsibilities:
  • Remove existing flooring materials
  • Clean the surface to be covered
  • Measuring and cutting material to fit in the required space
  • Arrange flooring according to design plans
  • Place materials and secure with the manufacturer’s recommended adhesives, nails, and/or staples
  • Fill joints with filler compound and remove excess compound
  • Trim excess material
  • Cut and install the appropriate flooring transitions

 Installation occurs primarily in residential jobs; some commercial installs may occur. 

Some of What You’ll Learn:

  • Inspect the surface to be covered to determine its condition. Correct imperfections
  • Roll out, measure, mark, and cut to size using tools
  • Join edges of seams
  • Cut and trim to fit
  • Plan the layout of the flooring
  • Aligning material with walls
  • Installation
  • Clean up
  • Measure and cutting 

Physical Requirements

Using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials, and manipulating things. Moves, secures, installs, builds, loads, or unloads materials. Bend, stretch, twist, or reach with arms, and/or legs. Use of abdominal and lower back muscles for repeat and continuous use. Using force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects. Manual Dexterity. Sitting, standing, or lying down. Exert muscle force repeatedly or continuously over long periods of time. Ability to lift over 75 pounds. Walking. Frequent standing on a concrete floor. Repetitive motion. Manual dexterity. Use of heavy and light equipment. Use of tools. Smell and use of chemicals. 

Working Conditions/Environment

Primary, residential homes, mostly indoor and some outdoor space. Secondary, indoor warehouse and some outdoors. 

Tools

No tools required to start. Future tools may be needed upon advancement. 

Transportation

All employees are responsible for providing their own transportation. Reliable transportation to be well kept maintaining a professional appearance when working at customers homes. A work cargo van is available, primarily used for the on-site (warehouse needs). At times, this vehicle is used for travel to installs. 

Schedule

Approximate 8 hour days with ½ hour unpaid lunch and paid breaks factored into schedule. Approximately 40 hours per week. On occasion, overtime may be required on short notice to complete an install.

Secondary Responsibilities

During installation down periods, installers are expected to return to the facility and assist at the warehouse in a supporting role to Warehouse personnel. Assisting with the following activities include but are not limited to: Loading and unloading materials. Cleaning and maintenance of tools. Operate a tow motor. Painting and staining materials. 

Mandatory Requirements

Must be 18 years of age or older

Must have a valid driver’s license and active vehicle insurance

High school diploma or equivalent

Drug screening and background check
