Job Description

Chief Medical Director - 100% Remote

My client, a rapidly growing national leader in wound care services is seeking an experienced Wound Care Medical Director to oversee wound care services nationally. The preferred candidate will be Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) with a minimum of five years of experience in wound care.

The Medical Director (MD) will oversee the growing clinical department, which includes clinical training and development as well as quality assurance. The MD will work closely with the Clinical Service Director and Quality Assurance Manager to ensure best practices are implemented and followed, assisting in continuous program development and optimization.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight of patients with complex wounds.
  • Direct patient care when no provider coverage is available.
  • Provide oversight for Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) and nursing staff.
  • Review high-risk ambulatory wound care referrals and escalate as needed.
  • Respond to quality-related complaints and appeals as necessary.
  • Maintain active licenses in all states of operation.

Administrative Responsibilities:

  • Lead the administrative functions of the wound care program, including design, implementation, and growth.
  • Support utilization management by reviewing wound cases and appeals, as well as outside referrals.
  • Utilize data analytics to drive electronic health record optimization.
  • Attend scheduled meetings.
  • Review, create, and maintain policies to improve care for complex wound patients.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop program outcome measures.
  • Oversee quarterly reviews of outcomes as well as quality assurance (QA) and risk management.

Regulatory and Compliance Responsibilities:

  • Stay informed and up to date on all laws, regulations, Medicare guidelines, Local Coverage Determinations (LCDs), National Coverage Determinations (NCDs), and proposed coverage changes.
  • Conduct training and provide oversight to all clinical departments to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and policies governing advanced wound care practice.
  • Review clinical protocols and interventions, make revisions, and work with the Clinical Director to implement training and changes.
  • Ensure all note templates and interventions support medical necessity for the services provided.
  • Appeal claims or authorization denials due to medical necessity, providing arguments for why services are medically necessary.
  • Act as the representative of the practice, participating in conferences and networking to stay current on developments related to advanced wound care.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Board Certified/Board Eligible (BC/BE) with a minimum of five years of experience in wound care.
  • Licensed or willing to be licensed across all states of operation.
  • Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations, Medicare guidelines, LCDs, NCDs, and proposed coverage changes.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship abilities.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Strong understanding of data analytics and electronic health record optimization.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and projects simultaneously.

Work Environment:
This role is remote but will include direct patient care when other area providers are unavailable. The position will have a 25/75 blend of clinical and administrative work. The ideal candidate should be clinically exceptional, possess strong leadership acumen, and enjoy building and working alongside a great team.

Salary:
Salary starts at $250K per year.
