PURPOSE OF POSITION WITH CFI:

The PVFC Cook provides essential support for our camp based programs by leading the preparation of daily meals and managing the kitchen. The camp cook ensures that students and guides remain well-fed and is an integral part of the student experience.

ROLE SCOPE & RESPONSIBILITIES  include but are not limited to:

Pre-Trip:

  • Communicates with commissary manager about menu and dietary restrictions
  • Organizes and packs menu ingredients during the trip rig
  • Organizes and packs necessary kitchen equipment (propane, linens, condiments, etc.)

During Trip:

  • Ensures that food safety standards are followed throughout the course of the trip.
  • Monitors and ensures that appropriate amounts of ingredients are used throughout the trip.
  • Maintains kitchen equipment and communicates with Operations Director regarding additional maintenance needs.
  • Prepares and cooks meals throughout the course of the program.
  • Oversees and instructs student kitchen crews in meal preparation.
  • Supervises the distribution of food throughout the program and ensures that appropriate portion sizes are offered.
  • Oversees the dish washing and clean-up process following meals.
  • Assists with River Day Shuttle driving as needed.

After the Trip:

  • Make sure all dishware and kitchen implements are properly cleaned and stored.
  • Clean all kitchen surfaces as well as stoves, sinks, and trash receptacles.
  • Manage trash, compost and recycling from the trip.
  • Return any coolers, bins, and boxes used for the trip
  • Unpack and dispose of any partially used ingredients as appropriate
  • Clean out coolers, bins, and boxes and return to the warehouse.
  • Meet with commissary manager to communicate about menu successes and needs for alteration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current Utah Food Handlers certification
  • Experience with food preparation for large numbers of people
  • Able to communicate effectively with coworkers and supervisors
  • Strong sense of risk awareness and commitment to mitigating risk
  • Comfortable working with youth and fostering a supportive environment
  • Values and works to uphold inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility in their work.
  • Available to work a flexible schedule including mornings, nights, and occasional weekends
  • Strong self-management skills
  • CFI requires everyone who comes in contact with youth to take a comprehensive background check.
  • Proof of Covid-19 vaccine. Reasonable accommodations for candidates who can’t be vaccinated due to valid medical or religious reasons will be considered

Considered Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Current driver’s license and a willingness to participate in and pass Driver Training
  • Maintains a clean driving record, passes and keeps current a DOT physical exam at own expense.
