This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position and is located on JWCC’s Workforce Development Center in Quincy, Illinois.  

 

John Wood Community College is seeking a dynamic and experienced Business and Industry Training Consultant to join our team. This individual will be responsible for developing and delivering customized training solutions that meet the needs of local businesses and industries. The ideal candidate will have a passion for workforce development, a collaborative spirit, and the ability to cultivate strong partnerships with community stakeholders.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILIES

  • Primary contact between John Wood Community College and businesses/organizations seeking employee training solutions.
  • Assess training needs and develop tailored solutions for businesses and industries in the region.
  • Collaborate with local businesses and industries to assess training needs and develop customized training programs.
  • Design and deliver high-quality training programs, workshops, and seminars in areas such as leadership, technical skills, communication, and safety.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external organizations, and subject matter experts to create innovative training offerings.
  • Promote JWCC’s workforce training programs through outreach, networking, and marketing efforts.
  • Build and maintain relationships with employers, community organizations, and other stakeholders to support economic and workforce development initiatives.
  • Work with subject matter experts (SMEs) to create specialized curriculum tailored to specific industry requirements.
  • Develop cost models to ensure training programs are competitively priced and financially viable.
  • Identify and secure funding opportunities, including grants, to assist local businesses with covering the cost of training.
  • Coordinate and facilitate training sessions, ensuring they meet the standards and expectations of the industry.
  • Track training outcomes and prepare reports to evaluate program effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on workforce trends and emerging training needs within the community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, education, workforce development, or a related field, Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in training development, adult education, workforce development, or a related area.

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Proven experience in workforce development, business consulting, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of industry-specific training needs and the ability to translate them into effective training solutions.
  • Experience in developing cost models, securing grants, and managing budgets.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to innovate and drive continuous improvement in training programs.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Knowledge of grant writing and funding opportunities.
  • Experience working within higher education or workforce development.
  • Familiarity with the local business landscape and industry trends within the John Wood Community College service district.

 

Working Conditions:

  • The Business and Industry Training Consultant position at John Wood Community College involves a combination of office work, on-site training, and community engagement activities.
  • Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods during office work, training sessions, and site visits.
  • Occasional lifting of materials, such as training supplies and equipment, up to 25 pounds.
  • Office-based work at the college with frequent travel to local businesses, industries, and community organizations.
  • Work may occur in various settings, including conference rooms, classrooms, manufacturing facilities, and other business environments.
  • Occasional exposure to industrial environments, including noise, dust, and machinery, during on-site visits or training sessions.
  • Regular travel within the region is required to engage with businesses and deliver training programs.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation are necessary.
  • Frequent use of computers, projectors, and other audiovisual equipment for training development and delivery.
  • Proficiency in virtual meeting platforms may be required for online or hybrid training sessions.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with a typical schedule of Monday-Thursday (8am – 5pm) and Friday (8am – 12pm).
  • Typically follows a standard Monday through Friday schedule, with occasional evenings or weekends to accommodate training sessions, meetings, or events.
  • Flexibility is required to meet the needs of business clients and the college.

 

SALARY:

  • This is an exempt position with an estimated annual salary range of $46,000.00 – $55,000.00.
